Agency Leverage Founder Dennis Carlson has spent most of his adult life as an entrepreneur, marketer, and sales professional. After seven years as an artist manager and marketer in the music industry, he fell headfirst into insurance when he and his wife moved from Los Angeles to Northern California in 2004.
Taking a job as the “marketing guy” for a mid-sized commercial insurance agency he quickly saw an opportunity in employee benefits when his employer convinced him to obtain his Life & Health license.
Dennis built a thriving employee benefits practice for the agency and rose to Director of Sales & Marketing before leaving to found his own employee benefits brokerage, Bespoke Benefits, in 2009.
Always looking for innovative and efficient ways to drive new business, Dennis became immersed in the plethora of marketing strategies, technologies, and automation tools that were arriving on the market. His marketing savvy combined with his entrepreneurial drive allowed him to build Bespoke Benefits into a highly regarded benefits brokerage and HR technology champion over the next 8 years. In 2017 Bespoke Benefits was acquired.
In 2018 Dennis launched Agency Leverage.
The sales and marketing strategies and automation systems he used to grow his own agency he now enthusiastically shares with benefits brokers and the insurance industry through Agency Leverage.
Dennis has consulted on business development, sales and marketing with startups and tech companies such as ZipRecruiter, On3 Health and Limelight Health. He has served on broker advisory boards and panels for Kaiser Permanente, Assurant Employee Benefits (now Sun Life Financial), CaliforniaChoice, Blue Shield of California and is a Past President of the Sacramento Association of Health Underwriters. He is also certified by Hubspot in Inbound Marketing and by Demandbase in Account-Based Marketing.
